A year or so after I bought my first house a real estate investor came around chatting with neighbors since he had just bought a property in the neighborhood. He owned quite a few properties and was clearly passionate about it. Anyway, he said something to me– “you learn on your first house” and I have returned to that saying many times as I have bought other houses. Hearing that was helpful as I dealt with some unforeseen issues on the first house, and it helped me feel more confident in future purchases. Basically the idea being that you are green on the first house and no matter what goes wrong there, you will know more on all aspects of what can go wrong and right in your future investments.
