I’m Irish and it’s a fairly tough market here. After months of searching and frequent disappointment, I finally found a place and outbid 8 other prospective buyers. However, the survey report noticed a water ingress in the ceiling and I’m worried there could be a potential leak. It’s a top floor apartment with a flat roof.
I asked the management company of the property, but they won’t deal with me as I have no current stake in the complex. They told me to direct my questions through the Estate Agent, but the Estate Agent became evasive and defensive and tried to tell me the solicitor deals with that during the later stages. My solicitor firmly told me that this was a cop out on their part, and to get answers before I incur a larger legal fee.
Is this a big enough red flag to withdraw my offer? I’m not getting a bargain or anything (I’ve already gone 20% above asking), and I could have bought a previous property with known water damage. That was also reflected in the price of the apartment. Obviously I’ll never be 100% sure about a place, but I don’t see why I can’t get answers.
