I recently got the homebuyer survey back for my first house purchase and it’s had some potential asbestos flagged that I’m not sure what to do about.
The house was built in the late 1960s and looks like it’s internal decoration hasn’t been updated in a while. I already know I’m going to have to have the whole place rewired and I’m also going to need to remove all the polystyrene panels covering the ceilings/wooden panels covering some walls, so I’ve budgeted for some internal works. The potential asbestos was flagged up in artex on a couple of the ceilings, the wooden panels on a couple of walls, and the external roof eaves.
Since I’m going to be doing work around the ceiling replacing the panels and I’m rewiring the place, should I get an asbestos survey done before buying the place to confirm if it’s there? Should I proceed with the sale if it is there?
