Hey gang – I’ve noticed something I think is weird in my area recently. Several houses have come onto the market in the past couple of weeks where the sellers have subdivided their side yards and are selling them separate from the parcels with the house + driveway? These two listings are one example of sellers doing exactly what I’m talking about in one of the most fast-paced markets in the area: Listing w/ House + Garage | Listing for the side yard.
The ‘yard’ is about a half-acre, but very narrow – when a developer ultimately plops a house/driveway in that parcel, it will be super crammed against the neighbor’s homes on either side. Of course, sellers have every single right to do so with their property, but I can’t help feeling that it’s pretty odd? I’m a first-time homebuyer in the very early stages of purchasing my first home, so I’m curious if I’m just ignorant to this very normal situation? Is anyone else seeing this in their areas?
