My girlfriend and I just moved to Silver Spring MD, in the greater DC area two weeks ago. We have had problems regarding mold and roaches that have been severe and unrelenting.
My girlfriend and I are allergic to mold and it has been making us sick. We had had to have the windows open every day and have been trying to clean up what we can. We even made a maintainance request to clean the mold, but it is to no avail. We looked behind the oven and the dishwasher and the wood is completely rotten and moldy. To fix the mold in the kitchen would require an entire rework of the woodwork and cabinetry within kitchen in the unit. We submitted an email to the management team about it exclaiming that these are unlivable conditions and that we are requesting immediate action and haven’t gotten a response.
Aside from the mold, there are so many roaches that never seem to go away. We are from New England and went to school in Vermont, thankfully roaches don’t like the cold, I guess, because we have never had them. So to us, they are like something out of a sci-fi movie. We put in orders for pest control to come and take a look and they put out some sticky traps and that was it. We, obviously, kept seeing them come out at night in our unit making us paranoid to be in there. We have refused to move all of our things, which are sitting in boxes in the living room, into the kitchen, until the mold and roaches are taken care of. (Which I am beginning to believe they never will be). When I say these things are unrelenting, I MEAN IT. We started off by purchasing some “roach-killing” spray with a motorized hose that makes me feel like i’m in the trenches in WWII with a flamethrower in my hands torching to NAZI roach bastards. I sprayed that shit in every crevice in the entire kitchen and all the openings and orifices around the rest of the unit too–still, roaches. We bought Boric Acid, a very fine, “roach-killing” powder that you dust in the back of the appliances so the roaches have no choice, but to breath it in and live in it every day. Still, roaches… I even bought roach foggers and boarded up the kitchen with cardboard to ensure that all of the roaches are gasses in a horrible, certain doom, but when I opened the door to air it out after giving the kitchen 5 hours to marinate in poisonous roach killing gas, the first thing I was greeted with was a roach on the wall. I have pumped so many “roach-killing” chemicals into that room that I am half expecting to see a god damned, mutated Radroach from Fallout on my wall just there to end my life.
On top of all of this, NOT EVEN TWO WEEKS SINCE WE MOVED IN, there was a shooting in the parking lot of our building involving our neighbors across the hallway! I stepped outside to see what was going on and I felt like I stepped into an ongoing game of Rainbow Six Siege with two SWAT officers outside my door, one equipped with a shotgun and the other hiding behind a giant riot shield ushering me to go back into my apartment and lock the door! LIKE WTF!!
Get me out of this place, please!! I have no idea how to do it, but we want out NOW!
Any help is deeply appreciated.
