In a thread the other day, I made a claim that my wife wanted us to buy a SF house for $80k in Vienna, VA in 2000, but that I was said we weren’t ready for a house (we had just gotten married and had low-paying jobs). She brings this story up jokingly when we talk about missed opportunities over the years.
This is an impossibly-low sounding number, because that is a very rich area! So a bunch of people called BS on my story and said there was no way a house was listed for that low in 2000.
My memories are faulty sometimes. Maybe it’s possible I misremembered the number? Or maybe it was a condo? Maybe the listings were for another town in a more rural area?
Well, I looked in my old emails and I found two MLS listings she forwarded me in Sept 2000. Each has the MLS number, her search parameters (Vienna and Oakton under $150k) and a dead realtor.com link.
Is it possible to figure out what properties they were based on 21 year old MLS numbers?
Either I get to pwn some people on reddit, or I get to tell my wife to stop bringing up our missed opportunity — so it’s a win-win.
