My husband and I (both FTHB) received the official Clear to Close phone call from our loan officer last Monday. She instructed us to contact our realtor so he could let the attorneys know. We texted our realtor to give the heads up and he replied “nice.” My husband reached out on Friday to ask for a status update- no response.
Context: Our realtor is my husband’s uncle, who has been in the business for 20+ years and by all accounts is very good at his job. We genuinely appreciate all that he’s done for us the last few months of house searching. After losing 15 houses, he connected us with a friend/former coworker of his who was thinking about selling but hadn’t officially listed. We met the seller, toured the home, and loved it and are anticipating closing by the end of June (6/30 is on the initial contract).
Our frustration lies with the very poor communication. Frankly, if he wasn’t family we would’ve fired him by now. For several of the houses we bid on, we had to call him to find out if we won/lost. He would receive the notification from the seller’s agent and not pass it along to us.
So my question: is it acceptable for us to reach out to our attorney and bypass trying to get our agent to respond? My MIL said our agent’s mother had surgery early last week and chalked his unresponsiveness up to that. I am sympathetic AND I also expect some communication. If I pulled this at my job, I’d be fired.
I just am looking for some outside perspective as this process is new to us- and is fairly stressful.
