Wife and I are buying a 5 year old house that formerly had a tandem 3 car garage. The previous owners converted the tandem spot into an extra room, and the garage is now 2 car.
The work was unpermitted, and we’ve negotiated down the cost of the house accordingly, however after doing some reading here and there I’m having some misgivings about the purchase.
We’re still under contract and the inspection is pending. Would this be enough reason to back out?
I should say, there’s no living space above the conversion, and overtly there doesn’t appear to be anything wrong.
