(TX) How to purchase land of deceased individual with no family

Hiya,

This question is for Texas Laws.

My parents own 81 acres in Texas. At the very front of their property the neighboring parcel of land (3 acres) has been abandoned for over 20 years. However until 2016 there were living heirs who owned and paid for the Taxes on the property.

The last remaining heir passed away in 2016 and the taxes haven’t been paid since. The county appraisal district map shows the land belongs to the estate of the last sister that passed in 2016. She had no surviving relatives.

The land has water and electric run already but has no foundation/house/structure.

My spouse and kids currently live in the suburbs and would like to eventually relocate to the country where my parents live. They would be more than willing to give us a bit of land to build on but I’d prefer to purchase this abandoned 3 acres.

My question is how do I go about doing that given that there is no living owner and the taxes have been delinquent for 7 years?
