Trying to time selling then buying.

We are relocating from NY to NJ and are selling our NY condo when we found a home in NJ that we could not pass up. We went in to contract last week for the home we want to buy and expect to go in to contract this week for our condo. What is the typical closing period length in NJ compared to NY? How can we drag out the loan process so that we can close on selling our first then using the proceeds to close on the new place?
