Texas Property Tax Question

Hey all,

My wife and I are in the market for a home and trying to calculate what we are comfortable spending on a home. On Zillow I see past property tax assessments and payments – but my question is, are these still accurate? These are showing assessed values at ~$250-270k for homes that are priced at $400k now. I just recently moved here. I know in MO what your “assessed” value was was nowhere near what the market value was for both real estate and vehicles.

If we buy a home for $400k will we expect to pay near those assessed values or will the sale trigger a massive property tax b****slap? Going to call the local tax office tomorrow but just wanted to see if anyone had an idea of how things have been since the ridiculous real estate increases from COVID. I am aware of the homestead exemption as well so we plan on doing that ASAP if we purchase a home.
