My tenant gave me a notice that he is vacating the flat in 30 days. We agreed, however he has given a notice of 1 day beyond his normal month cycle. He has paid the rent until the end of the month, excepting the one day.
Should I retain 1 day rent from deposit? Also he asked me to return 90% of deposit before he vacated because he gave me the deposit in advance before occupying the house. Is this a valid logic? I mentioned that I won’t be able to return the deposit until I inspect the flat and that will be at the date of notice given. This irked him up and he went on rambling about how inconvenient and unfriendly I was, mentioning past history when I didn’t accept his request to waive off rent escalation.
I’m considering returning half deposit before inspection, as he mentioned financial problem of his family.
Please advice if I should return his deposit before inspection? What is the normal route taken by you. Thanks.
