Talk to me about Title Insurance (NY)

I understand it is valuable for the rare occasion when title issues come up, however I believe it is overpriced for the amount of risk taken by the insurance company (and thus a scam in that it hasnt consolidated to a few major players). It can actually be made very efficient and cheap/low cost if someone wanted to invest into the technology.

When I purchased a property a few years ago, I used Entitle Direct. I was very happy with their service and price – however I found out they were taken over by another company. I recall they were a national provider that came in at about 1/2 to 2/3rd of typical title insurance policies.

Anyone else know of any companies looking to disrupt this opaque market? If i am going to buy a policy, i will support anyone looking to disrupt this market.
