I (27M) am moving to a new area with my SO (26F) and have a question. Should we dump $2400-2600 (cost of the area) in rent a month or buy an apartment. Here’s some details:
We only want to live there for about 2 years. So afterwards we’d be selling it and moving states.
I have about 60k saved up and would be down paying $50k on a ~$300k unit (this is where I’m most concerned)
SO has no savings and college debt, just starting her career.
In this market, I’m not sure the apartment will go up that much in value in 2 years. And if it goes down, I’m screwed.
Paents are urging us to buy a place, but I just wonder how good an idea it is buying now versus when we move in 2 years and are in a better place financially. It’s stressful as hell and they make us seem like we are dumb for throwing away money on rent. It seems this is a generational thing too.
Just looking for some macro reactions!
