I bought a condo 10 years ago in my 20s. (It was very cheap, bad neighborhood, etc.) Now it’s a hot neighborhood and I’m selling. Set to close next week.
When I bought, I felt bamboozled. People couldn’t answer my questions, or dodged them, and this time, on the selling side, I didn’t want it to be like that. I was assigned a closing coordinator, and then referred to the attorney, but I still have a ton of unanswered questions and not a lot of business days before I show up to sign things. Is this normal?
The coordinator and lawyer are asking me things about “do you have all of the building key fobs,” and I’m like, yes, as indicated on the condo disclosure forms I did two months ago. And I’m asking things like, will you hold my property taxes in escrow? Who cancels my homeowners insurance (me? or my mortgage company since they’re the policy insurance company?), and I’m just getting bounced around but no answers. Is this typical? Who will actually know the answers to these questions? Am I just not asking the right person?
