Seeking advice for first time home buying on a time crunch

Been renting a house for years (San Diego in Southern California) month-to-month and the landlord just gave us our termination of lease notice to vacate in about six months. He wants to move his own family in and has construction permits for renovations which start soon. He said he would give us an official 30 day notice once we need to vacate.

We really wanted to start the process to buy our own home within the next few years, but it’s going to be a little tricky with this fire lit under our butts.

Does anyone have any advice on if it’s possible to finish the process of buying a home in 4-6 months for a first-timer, or is it recommended to just find a month to month rental for now to have more time? We are looking to stay here in San Diego.

Very overwhelmed and don’t really know where to begin so would appreciate any form of advice!
