I am a property manager in Texas. I have been doing this job for years with limitations because I was unlicensed but I just recently got my license sooo here is my scenario:
I got my license because I wanted to use it as leverage kind of, to ask for a raise (it’s been 2 years+ since my last one) but I also wanted to start leasing for some extra money. Today, I approached our broker about splits for leasing, which I assumed would look a bit different since I’m also an employee, but they basically told me they aren’t allowing me to lease any of the properties that we manage and they don’t want me leasing any properties in our market area…. But if I want to lease anything out by where I live, I am more than welcome to, just not in the market area of our brokerage.
Am I wrong to be wildly bothered by this? Is this normal? We have leasing agents but there are times of the day when we get lead calls and there aren’t any other agents in the office. I can 100% show outside of office hours but everything else associated with the leasing process, I basically do anyway because of all these lazy ass agents.
Just a vent but also looking for feedback on how I should be responding.
