I need to get this off my chest:
I’m in Texas, and have been renting for nearly 4 years.
All through management companies/corporate.
I would say upper middle class locations – currently looking around NW Houston which has some pretty nice neighborhoods.
My last 2 locations, were brand new, I was first tenant.
Just a PSA, just throw out the carpet. I don’t care if it’s been “washed,” it’s nasty, filthy (even if it appears clean). Nobody wants to walk on carpet that people had their babies, pets, food, bare feet on. JUST GET RID OF IT.
And it’s always that nasty commercial brown sh*t looking carpet. Just stop, stop replacing it. Nobody in a rental wants it. I don’t care if, “it was cleaned from previous tenant.”
Personally, I will not even look at houses with carpet.
Tiles that look like wood – winning!
Vinyl wood plank – winning!
Some of these are even water proof. I don’t need hard wood floors or anything expensive, we just want clean/fresh. I don’t need fibers that hold bacteria and smells from other people.
I don’t even want it in any bedrooms. I loathe it.
Majority are carpet-less, but rental shortage in NW Houston, coming across a few that fit budget, nice area, nice neighborhood but carpet.
So if you are even considering should you or shouldn’t yes, please get rid of it. I guarantee you can probably charge a bit more even for it. Houses with carpet here seem to be priced $50-75 cheaper.
Wanted to add, those basic looking 10×10 vanilla tiles with like 1/5 inch grout lines, those are nasty looking too. So many houses with them here in Houston. Last resort at best.
