Question about contingency on selling my house

Hi so I am under contract to a home and it’s contingent on the sale of my home. My home is priced at 669k and we offered them 811k, so I was under the impression that our payment would be under 3k a month. My question is if we don’t get our asking price on our current house, am I able to back out of the deal without losing earnest money? Obviously if it’s slightly under we’ll go ahead but at a certain point it won’t be affordable. I am confused on how that works
