Purchasing First Home While out Of State – For Parents to Occupy

I have a bit of a unique situation that I am hoping y’all can help me navigate. I am currently residing in the northeast while my girlfriend and I are taking advantage of the flexibility of post pandemic remote work. I do not currently own a home or any other real estate, and am renting.

I am in a position where I need to help my parents secure stable long term housing. I am looking to purchase a home as my primary residence, and have my parents contribute to the some of cost of the mortgage, (I will also be contributing to the mortgage on a monthly basis, as they aren’t able to cover the full cost). I would be in and out of the house through out the year to visit, but may continue receive mail or pay utilities at another address (rental location).

So my question is – is it possible to legally classify this home as my primary residence? As we are living a bit of a nomadic lifestyle, it’s a bit hard to nail down where we will be 6 months from now.

I look forward to hearing from y’all.
