Property Taxes

Not sure where to go with my concerns. Long story short… we started looking at a house a month ago. We asked our mortgage company what the property taxes were for the house. When they told us, they seemed low, but the mortgage officer assured me that the numbers were correct and if anything they would only change a little bit.

Fast forward to today-the day before closing. The mortgage officer called me and said the tax info she got from the township was wrong. The sellers (who bought the house just one year ago in December) bought it from somebody who also owned a church, so they didn’t pay property taxes during last winter. She let me know that the actual winter taxes are $2,500 for the winter, and not the $200 we were lead to believe. I’m at a complete loss of words. What do I do?
