So, I bought a home and the previous owner let me have their home owners warranty for the remainder of their contract.
I was hesitant to accept because I DO NOT want a warranty payment. But was told I wouldn’t owe anything since there was only one more month and it was already paid for.
So, I agreed to take it. I also made clear to the company WHEN I called them to transfer it into my name that I DO NOT want it to be renewed once the current contract expires.
However, I am getting a call now from that warranty company claiming the old owners payment information is on file and I owe money on the current contract.
I am pissed because I don’t have time to deal with this and also was hesistant to accept the warranty for EXACTLY this reason. I do not want to deal with this BS right now.
Does anyone know what this company can do to me? The only thing they have is my name and my address, I gave them nothing else. I am about to call to explain the situation, but it appears they hire people overseas (nothing wrong with people overseas), but their is a clear language barrier going on when ever I called them the first two times when taking over the remainder of the contract.
Just overall frusterated. Anyone have experience with this and know how to best handle this? Wouldn’t be surprised if this is a scam they practice as well to get new business.
