As the title states, I’m getting ready to give up on realtors in general (thanks to several specific realtors), and list my house myself. The market is very hot right now, but cooling, plateauing, and who knows what else is on the horizon. We’re slightly behind the major markets, in that we’re in a rural, coastal area with primarily a tourism driven economy and tourism is just now really taking back off again; but we’re also smack dab in the middle of timber country, so the non-tourism economy is hopping, too.
I’ve tried contacting four agents now to list this house, and so far three of them have just ghosted me while the fourth (who was my buyer’s agent on this property) appears to be continuing to struggle with small details (like my email address). I reached out to her out of desperation to begin with (she was bad with details last time too and we were constantly having to call and text to keep her on task, it seemed), and now I’ve been waiting for her sample contract for four days and it seems like she might still be emailing the wrong address (she did that last time too). If I can’t trust her to know such a basic detail, how can I trust her to sell a house?
To be perfectly honest, the reason we’re trying to sell is because we are desperate to move out of this county, because everything is like this. There are no services and it seems like all of the so-called professionals would rather just sit on their hands and bitch about their businesses dying than do any work. However, being desperate isn’t a good mindset to be in when attempting to sell a house, and we’re going to need time to purchase a new property, arrange for temporary housing, and time to pack and move (again, no services) once the sale of this property goes through because all of our money is tied up in this house.
So, what says Reddit? Do I keep giving this profession more and more chances, assign my wife to ride herd on a semi-acceptable offering, or learn to sell my own house?
