First time posting here, thanks in advance for any advice. I’ll try to keep this short.
I have been on a long hunt for a new place to call home in New York. I decided to use redfin, a website I use and I believe in their philosophy of paying agents as employees and trying to lower the costs of buying and selling.
So far they’ve been very good about showing me places and advising. I’m kind of a difficult client because I want to do a lot of the research myself, and I often look at a lot of units, much more than most people. They were slow to respond some times, but I took it on myself to reach out to the listing agent directly for simple questions (like stuff about co-op rules) about the unit where they would just be playing telephone. I know I’m not normally supposed to do that, but it cut the turnaround time dramatically.
Anyway, one of the units I was looking at, when I wanted to loop my agent in after a few questions, the listing agent said he wouldn’t work with redfin because they were a “discount broker” and would only show the unit to me directly, though he said he would relay offers to the seller from anyone I choose to work with.
I don’t know what to do. I really like this unit, I’m nearing the end of my search and this one checks all the boxes in what I’m looking for. As far as I can tell, the redfin people have been fine, and I would really feel bad to switch on them this late in my search. Can I just ask him to show it to me directly and then make the offer through redfin, or will he kill the deal before it goes through?
Would appreciate advice or thoughts about this. Thanks in advance.
