So I finally got to reviewing the contract with my attorney, who’s a real estate attorney of over 20 years, and I asked him about how the escrow works for the seller’s attorney, which he explained.
But then he asked me that I could even wire the money rather than getting a check certified to save time. So he sent me his escrow information.
But now that I’m re-reading the contract, it says the seller is supposed to get a certified check which they will put into their escrow.. but I wired the money to my own attorney instead.. not the seller’s attorney.
I didn’t even sign an escrow type agreement with my attorney.
On top of that, he asked me to include half his fee as a retainer in the wire to his escrow account.
Is this normal/standard?
