Looking for some advice from mortgage professionals especially if possible.
Entered into contract with mortgage contingency Realized while signing paperwork and checking my records that 2020 taxes weren’t filed (I was changing jobs and dropped the ball, my fault) No big deal I’ll handle it, file it in an hour using online tool and it says I owe about $3k no big deal I’ll pay it immediately It won’t let me pay because it turns out the IRS apparently has no record of my 2019 return so I can’t enter the AGI to file — wtf Tax software company charged my credit card last year for the taxes for 2019, so I shouldn’t be behind, but IRS has no record apparently
I have PDF copies of the returns that I can provide the lender and record from my CC transactions showing the tax amount for 2019 was paid to the IRS even though IRS says they don’t even have a record of my return. The transaction history at my bank literally says “US TREASURY TAX PAYMENT” for a few dollars over the amount I owed.
I do NOT have a lien against me. IRS website says there are no notices sent to me. It simply shows my last return as 2018.
I have over $200k in the bank cash and draw 2 gov pensions (military retirement plus VA) and have a stable high paying gov job so I have zero problem paying the amount immediately if I can find clear path to paying it. I want to pay it immediately.
I have zero debt other than a credit card that maxes out at 1/3 of my monthly gross. My DTI after taking on this house will be under 20%. The house is under $300k.
I was employed full time both years. I have W-2s etc. Taxes are automatically withheld by my employer.
But I don’t know how much this messes things up. Can I provide the lender with copies of my tax returns and W-2s etc myself for evidence of income?
What are my options here? What can I do first thing Monday to clear this up ASAP?
