My wife and I currently live in the mid-atlantic, but I’m originally from the midwest. Both of us are getting pretty sick of the crowds, humidity, etc. and had a somewhat random thought about buying a second house and moving out a little further – which turned into “why don’t we just get the F out”. We’ll keep our current house to rent out as an investment.
This evolved further into thinking seriously about buying a Great Lakes home, ideally lakefront or lake adjacent/proximate, to spend 3-4 months during the summer inhabiting (both our industries are extremely welcoming of remote work).
I’ve found just the initial research to be difficult and intimidating. Are there any good resources out there for this sort of thing? Sites, forums, subreddits, live human concierge types? Other than just blasting around Zillow, it’s hard to figure out what would even be a suitable area for our budget/needs/etc. It’s also not a realistic choice to drive or fly out and visit dozens of different areas to start.
