Hello, I’m just looking for some advice and thoughts on my situation. I made an aggressive offer on a home. This is my third offer on a house and I decided to put down a lot more. The house was a single lot and the lot next to it is vacant. It was accepted and we moved onto the inspection stage.
When pulling up to the home to meet my inspector the owner of the Vacant lot was standing in the backyard of the house that I was buying. I had parked in the driveway that was in the listing as the driveway that went with the house and they walked over to speak to me. They explained that the driveway didn’t go with the house it went with their lot. I apologized and told them about the listing. I was upset by this because off street parking was part of the reason I made an offer. Also the lot owner being on property that wasn’t theirs really bothered me too.
After the seller’s realtor and mine discussed everything and some investigating on my part I found out that the driveway was in fact part of the vacant lot. I also found out that the owners of it were pretty sketchy too. There were talks of getting an easement then the owners of the lot agreed to sell it instead. Then all of the sudden they doubled their price and claimed the lot is bigger (it’s not) and that they never gave the beginning asking price it’s always been the doubled price. There are other things that give me big flashing warning danger vibes but I don’t want to get too specific just in case.
Simply because of the stupid driveway situation and the way the owners are behaving have me losing sleep. I don’t feel confident in this purchase whatsoever any longer. I’m not even moved in yet and I’m having issues with neighbors that don’t even live there! All because the listing for the home was wrong! What is everyone’s opinion?
TLDR: made an aggressive offer on a house only to find out the driveway listed with it is part of neighbor’s property. Neighbors are sketchy and causing issues.
