Loan Originator Coming to Open Houses

My husband (m50) is a new loan officer with a major company. Veterans of the field have told him to attend open houses to make connections. He began doing this a few weeks ago and has had a lot of positive experiences until today.

He went to an open house and the selling agent stiffened up as soon as he heard that my husband is a loan originator. Although my husband was very polite the agent basically Kicked him out of the open house and then later sent him a text saying, “I appreciate you not coming to my open houses and trying to hustle my clients, that’s not how I do business.“ Then he blocked my husband.

We are super perplexed and confused about this. I looked the guy up and he’s been selling home since 2005 so he can’t be new to this process.

Any thoughts on this? I thought open houses were a place to network and do business to people in the field? Do agents really think it’s rude to help potential buyers get pre approved?
