My wife’s grandparents offered to sell us their home back in December, for a very affordable price. After her grandma passed away later than month, her grandpa signed over Power of Attorney to his eldest daughter. We didn’t push to buy it until recently after her dad and her grandpa got the ball rolling to sell it to us.
We had a verbal agreement on the price mentioned from December, so we were really excited. Eldest daughter came to visit this weekend and the idea of us buying the house was brought up. Only problem is, she wants us to pay double what our verbal was with her grandpa and his sons.
It was appraised this week, by their long time family friend, and I’m sure her aunt has had it done as well. It’s a small house, two stall garage, unfinished basement, with little to no room for expansion, except for up. Average list price is in the $260K range for surrounding homes.
Do I go ahead and hire my own unbiased person to appraise the property just to see what it’s worth? Or say to hell with that family drama and move along?
