I just started looking for a new home. I requested a tour of a house through Redfin and was assigned an agent.
He texted me and said the sellers need a preapproval before I see the house. I told him I’ll call the bank in the morning. The next day I called and I gave my info, and had to wait for an officer to call me back.
He texted me asking if I got the preapproval yet and I explained that I called, etc. He said “good news, they’re making an exception” and I was allowed to see the house without the preapproval.
This isn’t our first time buying a home and we never experienced that before. We saw over a dozen houses and never needed a preapproval until we made an offer.
Is this something new? Was he trying to see if we were serious? Kind of struck me as a red flag after thinking about it.
