I recently purchased my first home on a a little less than 10 acres in rural illinois. We are thrilled with our home but I continue to be confused by the appraisal. When I saw our appraisal I was surprised to see that the form used was for manufactured homes – called it a double wide, actually. I was leary of purchasing a manufactured home because I was concerned with how it would appreciate, but we decided to go ahead with the purchase because of the amount of land and the location, and the fact that there was no appraisal gap. We also plan on staying here for the next 30- ish years, but may refinance. This home is a Wassau home built in the 70’s, and when I research this company I see that they specifically state that they do not and never have built manufactured homes. We have a finished basement, and no record (that I can find) exists of it being a manufactured home. But the design of the home does look similar to that of a mobile home when you factor out the additions. Is there any way I can find out for sure what exactly this home is? If the appraisal form is incorrect, what then? Or should I just take the appraisal at face value and stop digging? Appreciate any advice!!!
