in the US, how do investors conceal their ownership of property, through buying it to an LLC, instead of their name? What’s this process like?

I remember a long while back, I was learning about real estate, and I remember that there was a way to not let just anybody see who owns a property, through doing child LLCs, or something of that sort. Does that ring any bells for anyone?
