I’m in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (outside of the city). The home next to me has a condemnation notice stapled to its side. It has had the notice up since I moved in a year ago.
I genuinely enjoy my home/location and am planning on being here a while. I want the property so that I can have it demolished and extend my front yard/garden onto that property. I just know that I’ll be upset with myself if the condemned home eventually gets taken by someone else.
I already reached out to my realtor to anonymously reach out to the owner (or whoever is on the public property tax records). I also reached out to a few demolition firms to figure out pricing. Additionally, I know that the home has been delinquent on taxes since at least 2018.
I have no relation to the current owner but my realtor has sent them mail inquiring on my behalf.
Has anyone been through a scenario like this before? I will gladly take any advice or cautionary tales.
