Things have slowed a little in my market (midwest) but houses are still going pretty quick in the nice neighborhoods. I saw a home this weekend in a good part of town but it’s not an ideal neighborhood since the elementary school it’s zoned for has the 45/15 schedule which is not popular around here. Anyway…Monday comes around and I go to make an offer. My agent checks in with listing agent who says they have no offers yet. The house has been on the market for 8 days now. I submit my offer around noon. 11am today they say they have multiple offers and would I like to raise mine? I have an FHA loan and offered $5k less than list, with inspection contingency. So I know I’m not a strong buyer. I’m also at the top of what I am comfortable spending so even $5k to me is a lot. I say ok to raise my offer to list price. 5 mins later my realtor calls me to let me know they “chose” my offer. I’m excited about the house but feel like I was hoodwinked into raising by $5k and I am doubtful there are other offers. I almost wish I would have said no and seen what happened. Last time I did that I didn’t get the house (and the house is still for sale!!). This is my 3rd offer and I’m getting tired. Idk what my point is but why do agents do this stuff.
