We have come across some weird, in our opinion, home viewing scenarios.
One was an open house in September with a Realtor and this guy was in the kitchen with his two young teens. We thought he was also touring but while discussing the place with the realtor he started talking about the house and how they did things and it became very apparent that he was the owner. Seemed strange.
The other was a house that posted online last week in our target area with no scheduled open houses so we had our agent contact them to make an appointment. Our agent was told it was Owner Occupied and being sold as is, with no inspections, cash offers prefered and was only available to view after 3 PM. So we scheduled an evening tour. A man in his late 40’s – 50’s answered the door and when we walked in there was a lady and a pre-teen girl in the living room and a Siberian husky roaming the back deck and yard looking through the windows. The guy tells us we can look around wherever we liked. After viewing the tiny rundown kitchen we went down the hall and the bedroom doors were closed so we double checked, asked again and he said “yeah go ahead, my son is just sleeping in one of the rooms” Opened one door to a dark room with person under the covers so we closed door without walking in. Opened another closed door and there was an older teenager sitting in bed, in the dark with a electronic device shining in his face and a small dog that immediately started yapping at us. So we didn’t walk into that room either. Luckily the main bedroom was unoccupied so we got to walk through that one, although we pulled a window curtain back to find the husky staring back at us. Everything was a mess with stuff blocking the closets and covering the walls. The floor used to have linoleum or something but it was all torn up and was now just concrete and dried up glue. We asked to see the back yard and he said “yeah, lemme just put the dog in one of the rooms”. We found a yard covered with trash, dog poo, and decaying furniture. There are was this weird fake exterior wall extension with a door to nowhere. The garage/driveway was packed with boats, cars and junk everywhere. It was an odd tour. Does anyone find that awkward and strange like me?
The next couple days we were told they had one offer already after only 4 days on the market but the sellers agent wouldn’t give our agent any info besides it being “a really clean offer”. He got the impression it was a cash offer but couldn’t say for sure. We looked at another house that had almost the same exact floor plan layout to try and get a better idea of the space and then we worked on a remodel plan to see if we had enough cash for a large down payment and still have money to fix it up. We took too long doing that and haggling with our agent on a potential offer price because he got a call saying they accepted the other offer after only 6 days being posted online. Can’t tell if the offer was that great or if more offers came in to make them decide so quickly. The whole thing kind of smelled fishy to me.
