Hi! So I’ve been very lucky and family is offering to buy me a house. I’m buying in my hometown so I know areas pretty well, and I am lucky I don’t need a mortgage so I won’t have to deal with all that bank hassle. But I can’t find much else as general advice in the internet.
I like old houses a lot more but I am checking the ones that have been recently renovated or only need one or two things to repair/fix bc I’m a newbie and the restoration idea ovrwhelms me. And I know that an inspection is needed before I decide to buy one, so Im working on that atm. But am I missing something else?
I saw one that I really really like, it fits the budget and the area and it’s renovated beautifully. I must be honest and say that I’m a bit in love with it, and I dont want to be missing something obvious because of how much I like it. They reduced the price (30k less), and I’m honestly wondering why it is that cheap. What should I check before deciding on it? The ad was up just 5 days ago so I also don’t want to lose it as it is in a cool area that has been going up for the last decade.
So basically I dont want to buy it impulsively but I also dont want to miss it as it will probably go away fast! I’m a bit stressed out as it is the first one I would go for. I’m new to this but my parents aren’t and my father saw it today and he says it might be cheap just because the stairs are steep so the house would only be good for young people, and they might want to sell it fast because these two last years were economically hard on many people.
Any specific or general advice would be very much appreciated. I just want to think about this rationally and take other people’s experience into account 🙂
