First time home buyer, need advice.

Hello folks,

I am a first time home buyer, residing in North California (bay area), USA, and I am coming here for some advice. I am just beginning the process for buying a house in next 6 months -1 year.

I saw some Lennar homes being built in the area that I want to get to, and they all look decent with new fixtures and stuff. However, I have read a lot of negative comments here about them and large national builders in general.

I am open to any kind of houses, but these Lennar ones seem to be in budget and new homes so they will be move in ready.

I don’t want to buy a house that I need to do much work in, because I kind of spend a lot of time working and very career focused generally. Basically want to get into a low maintenance home for the initial 5 years.

Based on the experiences, is there any particular reason why big box builders like Lennar, toll-brothers, etc may be a bad idea, or what may be the red flags I should look out for?

What would be the advantages of going for a single family home over these builders?

Thanks in advance.
