The house came on the market on Thursday and my husband sent me and our agent the listing. I fell in love. It’s a 4/3 multi-level in the middle of the woods, on a dirt road, with a brook running through the property. We had trouble booking the showing because it was instantly loved. All the time slots filled up very quickly. We got in at 7pm, and the property was very tough to see (in the woods, very dark).
We loved it. We told our agent, who is away visiting family, to pull the trigger and write up the offer, (65k over ask, 10k over ~market value, gap, escalation etc. but we have a home sale contingency). The offer, complete with a 10pm deadline, was submitted before the OH.
Open house was yesterday and husband went back with my daughter. They walked the property, walked the hiking trails adjacent to the property, made plans for a hobbit hole and a tree fort.
The agent reached out to everyone who’d shown the house, a blanket email, putting a deadline on offers of 8pm last night. My husband thinks it was a call for offers so they could beat our deadline. Make sure anyone who’d seen it had the chance.
At 9:04 our agent let us know that the sellers had been considering all the offers, and had asked for an extension to sleep on it, and would have an answer ‘first thing in the morning’.
Well, my husband went to bed at 4:00 and I’ve been up since. My stomach is in knots. I have to leave for work now (7am start). And I have to not be a wobbling mass of goo while I’m waiting for ‘first thing on a Sunday morning’ to arrive. On my weekends off, ‘first thing in the morning’ comes between noon and 2:00.
This is not for the faint of heart.
TL;DR – waiting to hear sucks.
