TLDR: My home buying FOMO and irrational thinking were due to not being happy with my current living situation (townhome with lots of stairs). Simply finding a beautiful single-family home to rent has made me come back to reality and wait it out another couple years until I have more money saved.
We have saved 10-15% of our down payment and were itching to buy in late 2020 and early 2021 using lower down payment mortgage options. As prices kept going up, we became more desperate. I realized the real reason I was looking to buy was not as an investment but just to have a home I was happier to live in with a yard. I now leased a rental single-family home in a beautiful neighborhood with a well-landscaped yard and all the bells and whistles I could ever hope for in a home I owned. In fact, this house has more to offer than what we could ever afford to buy. Originally the goal was to only stay here a year until we were ready again to buy, but I could see myself being here a few years easily.
