We made an offer on a house (still waiting to hear from seller) and when we looked up the APN it doesn’t belong to the house we saw but to the property nextdoor.
The contract listed APN xxxxx-000. When I look up that number in the county assessor’s office, it says it doesn’t exist, but it does exist without the -000 and that number belongs to property next door. The house we saw is on the other property, and according to the county, that land has a whole other APN. This is a property that was built by the seller in the 70s and it’s the first time they are selling.
Is this a scam? An error? An error in the county’s registry? We loved the house but we are kind of lost with what to do if they accept our offer. My agent says that we can investigate everything during the contingency period and that he won’t let me buy the wrong property, but I would like to know sooner. Has this ever happened to you?
Edit: my agent checked the title of the house and it’s legit, with the address we went to and with that APN (the one with the -000)
