EMD

Hello! I was wondering what the typical rules are about getting your earnest money deposit back. The new build company im working with just seems off to me … we were given the option of a 30 day close home and I kept calling and calling and they finally told me that fell through because of the appraisal. Whatever just annoyed no one told me and I had already given my move out notice at my current location. Then they give me another option for another home to be done in September. I sign , give EMD bam. I go to my design studio appt last week and she’s like do you know when your home will be done. I say September she bursts out laughing .. she says January if we’re lucky. Basically getting screwed because interest rates will continue to rise and to lock down the rates are waaaaayyy expensive it’s ridiculous.. is there anyway I could go about cancelling my contract and getting my deposit back? I’m calling this week to get the deets but wondering what others typically have experienced . TIA
