We’re doing a refi on our house and our mortgage lender booked our appraiser. I’ve never been inside a home when an appraiser was doing their work and would love some advice whether what we saw was normal or professional?
First off, the guy drives up with his family in the car. Screaming kids, pissed off wife, the works. He spent about 10 minutes outside doing measurements, and a grand total of 5 minutes wizzing through the interior all while checking his watch every few seconds. Oh, it was over 100F outside and he did not leave the car running.
What concerns me the most was the interior. We bought a major fixer – I’m sure he did his diligence to review the previous listing photos so he had to have known the amount of work we put into it (I hope) We spent heavily doing up everything from new flooring to kitchen and bath reno, to a brand new HVAC system. None of which he asked about or seemed to even notice. I don’t want to say he was rushed due to his family being in a very hot car, but it did seem like he wanted to get it done as quickly as possible.
