So my wife and I put in an offer on our first house on Saturday. The house has good bones, but will definitely need some TLC as the seller did next to nothing to prepare to show it.
We saw the house on Friday privately, then went to an open house on Saturday. We put the offer in after speaking with the sellers agent at the open house. She mentioned the sellers are moving out of state.
Sunday, the sellers asked us to shorten the DD period (it ended 4 days before the closing date) and let us know that they were holding out for more money.
The funny thing is that we offered $5K over list, which isn’t a crazy amount in this market I know, but it’s more than list and there’s no other offers. I was willing to shorten the DD period after today calling the inspector to see how busy they were.
This morning we decided to let our offer expire at 5:00 pm as we aren’t interested in waiting. We have no problems waiting for a house we want, and they’ve been sitting on our offer. We just heard back from our agent that the seller is “expecting” two more offers today. My wife and I think they’re playing hardball to get more money.
We’re curious what everyone here thinks. Are they balking? Do you think they’ll accept our offer (20% down, no contingencies) or let it go?
