Colorado home prices. Wtf.

Hoping someone can help my uneducated self about this. I live in Colorado. We’re about right in the middle of the 50 states in the list of cost of living. So not exactly cheap but not crazy expensive. But how come when I search for homes there’s basically nothing under 500k that isn’t either a trailer or a major fixer upper that looks horrid, smelly & probably haunted.

But when I look for homes in places that are said to have some of the highest costs of living, such as OR & CA…. I can find hundreds of nice looking homes for 250-400k. I know more than housing costs go in “cost of living” but this doesn’t even make sense to me!

I’m wanting to move out of state but just trying to make sense of how Colorado has an average cost of living with homes that costly.
