We entered into an occupancy agreement with the seller, to our benefit, and we were extremely grateful for. We were under the impression by sellers and realtors it would take 3 months tops. Which was fine by us to pay a higher rent for a very brief period. We’re now at 10 months and $20,000 in rent and counting. The title is locked up in land court (checking for wills etc and changing property lines) and supposedly we’re now closer to a closing date but we’ve been told that every few months since August. We’ve now paid much more in rent than we ever wanted to for a much, much longer period, which has eaten away at our savings. The market has changed drastically and any options we had to buy are now long gone. We’re now also dealing with a termite infestation that we’ve been communicating with our realtor (we share the same realtor) and seller with for just as long. I’m worried. We love the property and don’t want to anger the sellers but we have lost a significant amount of money due to this. I’m not sure I would’ve made an offer had we known all of this going into this agreement.
