Closing on model home next week and a break-in just occurred

Hi All – I have a family member who is in escrow and closing on a home next week. As it was a model home for the new community, there was an option to purchase all interior items (which she went ahead and purchased).

Last night she received a call from the developer’s PM company stating that someone made their way into the home and stole multiple items (flat screen TVs, bedding, etc.). They also stated that they failed to secure the home, so it was not fully locked up.

Being that this home has been fully furnished for over a year and a half with multiple tours happening each day, it seems suspicious that this happens right when the house goes into escrow/ when tours stop, and a week before closing.

The PM moved forward on this by telling my family member: “well, you did get the house at a good price” and by wanting to cut a weak check (which would not even be enough to cover all lost items).

I plan to head over to head over to the sales office with my family member and demand that all stolen items are replaced (as they were already paid for and the property is still in the hands of the PM) and have all lock cores replaced on closing day. I do not trust their key management.

Anything other angle to take / anything else to request? Thanks in advance…
