I am looking at houses in this area. there are two shades the BFE, which I understand, its the chance of a 1 in a 100 year flood map (the upper limit of one) however how about orange, what does .2 chance mean? Is it basically in a 500 year flood chance limit (more desireable)?
Any other info to glean?
Also what can I do if I’m in the blue zone? Some houses are in nice neighborhoods. Why can’t I just BUILD a new house there (considering this) with a higher foundation? I guess I would need someone to come out and check the soil etc, other than that, anything else than building higher, or is that not a mitigation of flooding?
