I am one of 9 tenants renting a house in California and moved in this past July. After haggling with the property management company to get professional mold testing completed for two months, they finally did and discovered mold throughout the house. Now they are saying that they will most likely have to demo and renovate all three bathrooms and the kitchen. The other tenants and myself are looking to negotiate the rent down for the remainder of the lease (one year total), especially during the time of the repairs. What is a reasonable amount to ask for the rent to be reduced (percentage-wise)? For context, this is actually a renewed lease from the previous year, but 8 of the 9 tenants including myself have only lived in the house for 2 months. One prior tenant, we learned, experienced some health complications from the presence of mold in the house.
