Me and my husband are buying our first house, we’re going through getting approved for a rural loan, and I’m starting to feel extremely nervous about it. Worrying about if it’s a smart choice, if we’re making the right decision, is our monthly cost going to be more than I anticipated, will we be house poor? Etc. What is everyone else’s first time home buying advice? Is it normal to be this nervous? We’ve been approved for 300,000 but we’re trying to stay in a budget of 200,000. We currently pay 800 in rent monthly plus utilities which rounds it up to a little under 1,000 monthly. We’re looking in a rural part of southern Utah. We’re currently are saving up but don’t have a lot saved up. I called a mortgage broker just to get an idea of what I’d be approved for and the process started there. I know that wasn’t the smartest idea but the lender said with our loan we approve for 0 down payment.
